Attorney Profile

Daniel W. Schermer has been practicing law since 1969. From 1972 to 1978, he worked as a trial attorney with the Justice Department's Tax Division, prosecuting tax evasion cases throughout the United States. From 1978 to 1985, he was an Assistant United States Attorney for the District of Minnesota, prosecuting tax evasion and other white collar crimes. Among other things, he was the lead counsel in the Government's prosecution of Cargill, Inc. for tax evasion. Since 1985, he has been in private practice in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

Mr. Schermer has written extensively on criminal and tax law matters, including the Manual on the Law of Search and Seizure, "A Beginner's Guide to Tax Fraud Cases," and "Taxation for Trial Attorneys: A Practical Guide to Taxation of Settlements and Verdicts." He has lectured at the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center at Glynco, Georgia and at the Minnesota Trial Lawyers Association's annual convention.
